GEAR UP Goes to Washington

GEAR UP Waterbury is going to Washington, D.C. for a four-day college tour. Students will visit Princeton University, Georgetown University, Howard University, George Mason University, and the University of Maryland. Students must apply and be accepted in order to attend. 40 students will be selected to attend this trip. Students must complete an application and be accepted in order to attend.  Click HERE to download the application packet.

To be eligible to apply, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Current 11th grade GEAR UP student
  • No out-of-school suspension during the current school year

Students who meet the above criteria may submit an application. A completed application consists of:

  • Completed Application Form
  • Signed Parent/Guardian Permission Form
  • Completed Consent to Treatment Form
  • 250-word Minimum Essay*
  • Completed Teacher Recommendation Form*

*Students with a GPA of 3.0/8.0 or higher are waived from completing this part of the application.

Students who meet the above criteria may submit an application. The application deadline is Monday, March 26th. Students will be informed of their acceptance on or before Thursday, March 29th. Priority will be given to students who have a 3.0/8.0 GPA or higher, have shown dedication to GEAR UP through past participation in GEAR UP activities, and who have demonstrated through their behavior they are responsible and trustworthy students. Approximately 10 students from each of the four schools- Crosby, Kennedy, Wilby, and Career Academy- will be selected.
