GEAR UP Partnership Targets Study Skills

In 2014-15, the Naugatuck Valley Community College (NVCC) Library participated in a national assessment program. Through assessment of information literacy skills of First Year Experience (FYE) students at NVCC, the Library found that information literacy skills required intervention. As a result of these findings, the Library reached out to GEAR UP, in the hopes of helping to strengthen information literacy in local high schools. In the first phase of the project, select social studies classes and library media center specialists from Crosby, Kennedy, and Wilby high schools visited NVCC’s library media center to work with staff on how to identify credible sources for research.
